Ramesh Gorjala, a talented artist, specializes in creating intricate and detailed mythological portrayals of various Indian gods and goddesses. With a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from JNTU Hyderabad, his unique style involves blending multiple figures into an integrated subject, with a focus on prominent characters such as Krishna, Hanuman, Vishnu, and Ganesha. Gorjala’s artistic prowess has been recognized with several prestigious awards. In 2000, he received the “Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary Memorial Award” from Victoria Technical Institute (V.T.I.), Chennai. Additionally, he was honored with the “State Award” from A.P. Crafts Council in 2002, showcasing his exceptional talent and contribution to the art world. The paintings of Ramesh Gorjala are a testament to the intertextuality of Indian myths, encapsulating multiple stories within a single tale. His works encompass a rich visual narrative, often featuring a multitude of images within a single composition. Born in 1979 in Kalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, Gorjala was raised in a family of weavers, where he developed an early affinity for the traditional art form of Kalamkari. As a child, Gorjala learned Kalamkari from his uncle, Balaji Theertham, a renowned national award-winning Kalamkari artist. His exposure to the art form in his village, where mythological characters and stories were depicted on textile parchments, walls, and scrolls, greatly influenced his artistic development. Through his art, Ramesh Gorjala brings these mythological narratives to life, infusing them with intricate details and vibrant colors. His paintings serve as a bridge between tradition and contemporary artistic expression, honoring the rich cultural heritage of India while adding his unique touch.
