S D Shrotirya

S.D. Shrotirya, a renowned artist, writer, and art critic, held the position of former reader and Head of the Department of Drawing and Painting at S.D. (P.G.) College in Muzaffarnagar. With a deep connection to the mountain ranges of North India and the spiritual city of Benaras (Varanasi), his artistic practice draws inspiration from these landscapes. Shrotirya’s artworks are characterized by the use of movements and shapes to convey emotions. He employs a palette dominated by cool and soft colors, creating a sense of serenity and tranquility within his compositions. His artistic expression is a reflection of his profound understanding of form and his ability to evoke sentiments through visual means. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Shrotirya is an accomplished writer and art critic. He holds a Master’s and Doctorate degree in the same disciplines that he later became the head of. His contributions to the field of art have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Upendra Maharathi Award by the Bihar Government in 1988 and 1989, and the Veteran Artist Honour and Award by the All Indian Fine Arts and Crafts Society in 2008, among others.
